Mozart's The Magic Flute Session Theme

Mozart’s The Magic Flute

This session we will be introduced to Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Led by Papageno, a bird-catcher who is one of the main characters of the opera, we will go on a musical journey exploring the search for love, knowledge and virtue. We will learn the story of Papageno and meet some of his friends along the way.

Mozart utilized great variety in his musical treatment, from the folk-tone of Papageno’s music to the German-styled music of Tamino and Pamina, allowing a broad range of musical styles to be explored. Adapted for young ages, our Magic Flute curriculum will introduce children to this magical story, and present Mozart’s beautiful musical themes, performed on all the instruments of the orchestra.

Older children will also learn basic opera terminologies such as overture, duet and aria, as well as the elements of music notation, dynamics and rhythm. In addition, our special selection of children’s songs, which are both fun and educational, are aimed to help our students learn about colors, body parts, counting and musical expression.
